MISSION STATEMENT The Methodist City Mission's aim is to provide safe, comfortable and supportive temporary accommodation to homeless men respecting their rights and dignity at all times; underpinned by a Christian ethos and a commitment to social justice, the Methodist City Mission (MCM) seeks to engender a homely atmosphere whilst empowering individuals to meet their needs and gain more independence. AIMS The aim of the Hostel is to provide not only a home for the homeless but to encourage independent living. This involves more than simply the provision of food and shelter. It is important that our residents are cared for in the best possible way. Our staff seek to look after the personal needs of each resident as well as attending to their welfare in the hostel. The staff make arrangements for such things as chiropody, dental, optical and medical care. Where necessary, advice is also sought for the men on such things as permanent housing and state benefits. Our aim is to provide short- term accommodation (up to two years for those who will be housed by the local authority or Housing Association) with the caring spirit that respects the dignity of each man who comes through our door. RESETTLEMENT As part of their conditions of tenancy in the hostel, we encourage the residents to participate in a resettlement programme. The MCM employs a full-time Resettlement Manager and assistant who meet regularly with the residents to discuss issues they feel are of importance to living independently, and to provide basic living skills that the resident may need to learn. The Resettlement Manager works closely with other agencies such as those dealing with alcohol and drug dependency, mental health, education and other local community groups. It is our hope to provide an individual care plan for each resident who comes to live at the hostel.
